Children's Services

Guide Dogs SA.NT offers a wide range of free services for children and teenagers who are blind or vision impaired to help them:

  • Maximise their potential
  • Overcome challenges
  • Achieve their goals
  • Achieve their highest level of independence.
  • Day-to-day activities.

OUR CHILDREN'S SERVICES INCLUDE PROGRAMS FOR:

  • School students
  • Life Skills Camps
  • Transitioning program for Year 12 students

SCHOOL STUDENTS

We provide programs for school-aged children throughout South Australia and the Northern Territory.

We help children to learn to cope with everyday life - whether it be:

  • Orientation skills
  • Hygiene
  • Organisational skills
  • White cane technique
  • Road safety
  • Catching public transport
  • Skills to help in the classroom
  • Sport and recreation.

LIFE SKILLS CAMP

Children get the chance at our Life Skills Camps to build confidence and self-esteem, while learning the value of teamwork and leadership.

We run these camps with Can Do 4 Kids to provide a fun way for children to learn about:

  • Independent living skills
  • Socialisation
  • Recreation
  • Assistive technology
  • Orientation and mobility.

TRANSITIONING PROGRAM FOR YEAR 12s

Pathways to independence

We help year 12 students to transition between high school and the next phase of their lives - whether it be further education or a career.

Students learn more about:

  • Orientation and mobility
  • Adaptive computer skills
  • Money management
  • Additional domestic skills
  • Career pathways.
