Hearing Loss: The Effects

Hearing loss affects 22% of the population between the ages of 15 - 65yrs. Over 65 years this percentage increases to one in three people who can expect to have trouble hearing.

Having a Hearing Loss can be socially isolating and can impact on everyday communication, activities and lifestyle.

Referrals

Clients can refer themselves by simply telephoning to make an appointment, or they may be referred by another agency or health professional. All services are provided free of charge.

Hearing Solutions can help anyone who has a hearing impairment or a dual sensory loss, together with family members or people interested in learning more about hearing loss, the effects and services available.

Individual Programs

Hearing Solutions provides one on one hearing advisory sessions that provide people with the opportunity to discuss aspects of their hearing loss and associated conditions, options, care & management of hearing aids and assistive technology.

These sessions are also available to family, friends and carers who would like to assist by learning more about hearing loss, available technology and communication.

Effective Management of Hearing Loss Courses

Hearing Solutions conducts Effective Management of Hearing Loss courses throughout the year. These courses are for people with a hearing loss and also for their families, friends and careers, who may also want to learn how to support people with hearing loss.

These courses run for five weeks and cover how to manage hearing loss, speech reading and communication strategies to help overcome difficult situations, as well as aspects and causes of hearing.

People who are deafblind or with both a hearing and vision loss can access specific communication courses to suit their needs.

Community Education

Hearing Solutions also provides education sessions covering a range of topics including:

  • the effects of hearing loss
  • associated conditions
  • assistive technology
  • telephone tactics

Each session can be tailored to meet the needs of the audience.

Family Services

Family and friends around a person with a sensory disability are often a major influence on the person's life. Hearing Solutions programs assists the families to gain the information and skills they need to support their family member.

Country Services

Hearing Solutions is committed to maintaining and providing regular quality services to people in country areas and have developed linkages and partnerships with organizations in rural areas including:

  • Community Health Services
  • The Farm Noise & Hearing Network
  • Other allied Health Professionals in country South Australia.
