Orientation & Mobility Training for Adults & Children who are Blind or Vision Impaired.

Orientation and Mobility programs are about assisting people to travel independently and safely to a particular destination. If you have ever been lost then you can imagine how unsettling this might be to a person who has low or no vision. Our tertiary qualified instructors can teach adults with vision loss how to orientate themselves and safely move to a desired destination. Similar programs can be developed for children with vision loss using developmental theories which best suit the age of the child.

Specialist Assessment & Mobility Services for People with Vision Loss due to Brain Injury or Stroke.

People who have sustained a brain injury through stroke or accident can experience vision loss or double vision. Our specialised team of assessors and mobility instructors will design an individual program to maximise a person's safe mobility in the hospital, home or community. After a stroke people sometimes need to learn to walk again, likewise some people need to learn how to use their visual skills again. Our programs are about providing strategies to help you make best use of the vision you have.

Education & Training for People with Low Vision.

Changes to your vision can make life's simple tasks much harder. Loss of vision may result in difficulty shopping, preparing meals and reduce a persons confidence when crossing roads and using public transport. Many people withdraw from social activities or have reduced confidence in the community. Understanding how to manage your vision loss by learning scanning techniques and using technology, can assist you to minimise the impact of your vision loss and maintain your independence.

Technology has changed all of our lives forever and has led to greater independence for people with vision loss. Devices such electronic mini guides, long canes, identification canes and Guide Dogs are some of the tools people with vision loss can utilise to maximise their independence in the community. As a part of an Orientation and Mobility Instructors training, they have studied eye diseases and the impact of vision loss on a person's daily activities and independence. Each person with a vision loss has different goals and lifestyle.
