Volunteering

VOLUNTEERING

Eddie Van Meerendonk

"You think about what would happen to a charity if they didn't have volunteers and you know what you're doing is important. It makes you feel good being part of something."

Eddie Van Meerendonk

HOW YOU CAN HELP

Volunteers are key to the work of Guide Dogs SA.NT. Each of our volunteers makes an important and valuable contribution to the work of our organisation.

Do you have some time to dedicate to assisting Guide Dogs SA.NT?

A variety of work is available for volunteers between the hours of 9:00am to 5:00pm, Monday to Friday. Some evening and weekend work is available for special events, promotions and programs.

TYPES OF ROLES

Puppy Raising and Home Boarding: Volunteers are needed to take puppies into their homes for approximately one year, before they begin their intensive training. Home boarders are also needed to assist with short-term care for our dogs in training.

Collection Dogs: Our iconic Collection Dog program is supported almost entirely by dedicated volunteers who work in pairs to pick up and drop off Collection Dogs as well as the maintenance of the 'dogs' to keep them looking their best.

Special Events and Promotions: A number of promotion and fundraising events are held throughout the year to support Guide Dogs SA.NT. We require volunteers to assist with displays and activities during school holidays, to help on International Guide Dog Day celebrations as well as Top Dog Day - our biggest fundraiser of the year. A number of one-off events are held throughout the year where volunteer support is needed and appreciated.

Guide Dogs SA.NT Discovery Centre: The first interactive eye and ear health education centre in Australia promotes the prevention of both vision and hearing loss through integrated "hands-on" activities, information, education and key health messages. Volunteers act as 'tour guides' for groups visiting our award-winning facility.

Administration: We need regular assistance with data entry, mail outs, filing and other general administration duties to support the running of the Guide Dogs SA.NT office.

Volunteering with Clients: Although this is a specialised area of volunteering, some opportunities do exist in the Service Delivery department, providing support to clients of Guide Dogs SA.NT.

Fundraising for Guide Dogs SA.NT: Our work is reliant on generous community and philanthropic support. We invite volunteer fundraisers to hold their own events and activities to raise much-needed funds for Guide Dogs SA.NT.
