With a Nod to the Melbourne Cup

November 09, 2017

With a nod to this week’s Melbourne Cup we wind back the clock to our own participants out on the track……

The Course was dry and firm which favoured the harnessed ‘marshalls’ as they sat in place awaiting the ‘field’ that was to tackle the course.  All participants were in fine form and eager to move on to the course.  While it wasn’t actually a horse race, the day was a spectacle of colour and fun. All the participants were winners as they successfully negotiated the course and its obstacles at Dog Days Afternoon event. The valuable prize being their new found skills in guiding and heightened awareness of the everyday obstacles to be overcome by the vision impaired.

Dog Days Afternoon was a shared event of learning. Our photos this week show schoolchildren learning how to guide and be guided.   Footy legend Andrew Jarman, who is now one of our valued volunteers, was just one of the celebrities given the opportunity to join the schoolchildren in experiencing challenges faced people with low vision.
