Making the magic of Christmas accessible

It's not many more sleeps until the Credit Union Christmas Pageant comes to town and Access2Arts with the support of Guide Dogs SA/NT and the Royal Society for the Blind (RSB) is making the magic come alive for people with vision loss.

A recent tour of the Stardust Castle, where the elves are busy putting the finishing touches to the floats, enabled children and adults from Kilparrin School and Guide Dogs SA/NT and RSB and their families and supporters, to get up close to the floats, to touch them and gain an understanding of their size, decorations and themes.

Guide Dogs out and about at Specsavers!

Flying High!

Celebrating Guide Dogs SA/NT 60th anniversary. With 5th November looming thoughts wind back through history to the days when Bonfire Night and the accompanying fireworks were celebrated.  This by a giant leap of lateral thinking leads us to King and his handler, Clive Thelning, who he guided safely in the most unusual places, even getting up close and personal with giant size rockets!!

A big thanks to the volunteers from Beyond Bank for helping us to spruce up Buddy's Garden.

The garden at our Morphett Street Centre is where our dogs get to romp and play and have a toilet break.

Beau's Pet Hotel shines on Sunrise

Guide Dogs SA/NT's social enterprise Beau's Pet Hotel was pleased to host the Channel 7 Sunrise Program this morning.

Weather presenter and declared cat lover Sam Mac got the inside look from the cat atrium, met Gertie in her VIP suite and even rolled his sleeves up to wash Jet. A busy morning.

Call for people to be more aware of access issues

As a retired architect and access consultant, and a carer for his blind son, Ross Sands is passionate about making sure that people with vision loss aren’t flying blind.

On International White Cane Day and the start of Carer’s Week, Ross believes more can be done by people as they walk around the city and those who design public buildings to ensure greater accessibility.

Up close with a Guide Dog at Lifeskills camp

The Guide Dogs SA/NT Life Skills Camp continued through the week with a highlight of meeting some pretty cute Guide Dogs.

Many of the camp participants are white cane users but one day may wish to have a Guide Dog as their mobility aid.

The session was all about pats and cuddles and also an experiential walk to find out what it is like to be guided by our highly trained dogs.
