Paw Prints Autumn 2019

March 01, 2019

This edition of Paw Prints is dedicated to sharing some of the wonderful outcomes for our clients, made possible by you and your continued support of Guide Dogs.

I hope you enjoy reading about the lives you are helping to change. Lives such as Archer and his family.

I’m thrilled to share that thanks to your overwhelming support, Archer was able to receive the ultimate Christmas gift – his very own Autism Assistance Dog, Alvin!

Late last year Alvin graduated as a qualified Autism Assistance Dog for Archer. Alvin has settled in nicely with his new family, and they have welcomed him whole-heartedly to their home. You can read more about Archer and Alvin on pages 4 and 5.

“We all absolutely adore Alvin. He’s made a huge difference to our lives already. I’m so grateful for Guide Dogs and to the donors for their support,” Hayley said.

The beautiful thing about our amazing dogs is the variety of ways they can help someone in need. Whether they become Guide Dogs, Autism Assistance Dogs, or Therapy Dogs, every dog will benefit someone in their own special way.

I am also excited to introduce you to Chevy. Chevy is currently going through specialised training to become an Assistance Dog for a client in a wheelchair. To make moving around the house easier, Chevy is being trained to retrieve wallets, keys and other items, and drop them into his handler’s lap. Puppy Raising Advisor, Kirsty, takes us through Chevy’s specialised training on pages 6 and 7.

Late last year Barbara was matched with Guide Dog Teddy and she couldn’t be happier! Teddy has helped rebuild Barbara’s confidence to get out and about. Read about Barbara and Teddy’s journey together on pages 8 and 9.

“Teddy is absolutely beautiful. He feels just like Inkey, long, tall and gorgeous,” Barbara said.

Thank you for your support – you are the reason Guide Dogs are able to enhance the quality of life of people living with sensory disability, and children living with Autism and their families.
