Paw Prints Autumn 2020 cover shows a puppy chewing a soft toy.

This edition of Paw Prints is dedicated to sharing some of the wonderful outcomes for our clients, made possible by you and your continued support of Guide Dogs.

I am thrilled to announce a new match with long-term client, Ian and Guide Dog, Simba. Ian and Simba have just completed the four-week intensive training program, and are working together beautifully. I hope you enjoy reading about this wonderful pair on pages 4 and 5.

“Simba’s affection is infectious. Her willingness to work for me is unbelievable. I am aware of myself walking through the streets of Victor Harbor with a big smile on my face. All because of Simba!” Ian shared.

The sky’s the limit for our fearless clients! Earlier this year, Zuzia, Sarah, Jody, and Simon took on the iconic Adelaide Oval Roof Climb, in celebration of Adelaide Oval’s charity month. The experience showed how Guide Dogs’ Vision Services and Orientation and Mobility training and support had equipped these amazing individuals with the confidence and capabilities to achieve their goals. Training and support that could not happen without your generosity. Read about the climb on pages 10 and 11.

“It was challenging, but that’s good. It was a really good reminder that things are possible even when you have a disability, you can still accomplish what you aim for,” Zuzia reflects on the experience.

The beautiful thing about our amazing dogs is the variety of ways they can help someone in need. Whether they become Guide Dogs, Autism Assistance Dogs, or Therapy Dogs, each dog will benefit someone in their own special way.

Earlier this year our Dog Services team undertook a new initiative for our dog program and the South Australian Criminal Justice System, by training South Australia’s first Canine Court Companion, Zero. Canine Court Companions like Zero provide a compassionate way to help vulnerable victims and witnesses to tell their stories. Read this wonderful story on pages 12 and 13.

Thank you for your continued generosity. I hope you enjoy reading all the latest news from Guide Dogs – made possible thanks to you.
